Does tile go directly on KERDI-BOARD
If you are planning to install tile on your walls using the KERDI-BOARD system, you should keep in mind that you may need to wait for the bonding materials to cure sufficiently before proceeding. This is particularly important for curved wall areas and non-bearing partition wall systems, where the tiles can become destabilized if they are installed too soon. Once the bonding materials have had a chance to cure properly, you can then proceed with installing the tile.
KERDI-BOARD can be cut with a knife and shaped to fit any area. All seams should be sealed with KERDI-BAND.
Can you use regular thinset on KERDI-BOARD?
In general, it is not recommended to set ceramic and stone tile, including large format tiles, over the KERDI membrane using a modified thin-set mortar. This is because modified thin-set mortars must dry for the polymer binders to coalesce and form a hard film in order to gain strength. However, the KERDI membrane is impermeable and does not allow for the proper evaporation of water needed for this process. As a result, the mortar may not achieve fullstrength and could lead totile failure.
If you install Kerdi on drywall, it is only protecting one side of the wall. For optimal protection, you should install it on cement board.
